Yellow non-commercial vehicle with four or more wheels = 1 point
Yellow Volkswagen Beetle = 2 points
Yellow non-commercial vehicle with fewer than three wheels (e.g., motorcycle) = 3 points
Any commercial yellow vehicle (e.g., taxi, municipal truck, Stanley Steemer van) = 0 points
Spotting two (2) yellow non-commercial VW Beetles consecutively = double points for each, retroactive. E.g., spotting the first YNCVWB = 2 points. Spotting the second one CONSECUTIVELY, = 2 points. Then, because they were consecutive, automatically double each, retroactive to the first. So a TOTAL of eight (8) points. (It's kind of like rolling doubles in Monopoly; you get to roll again after rolling doubles.)
PENALTY FOR CALLING CHICKEN THAT WASN'T THERE
If a player who has not yet reached the Bonus Phase (see below) calls out "Chicken!" when no Chicken really existed, s/he immediately has one point deducted and also is not eligible to compete for the next "Chicken!" sighting.
PENALTY PHASE
If anyone in your car goes on a run of five or more (5+) unanswered POINTS, then everyone else in the car automatically loses one (1) point.
BONUS PHASE
Once a player reaches 20 points, s/he is in the BONUS PHASE and every subsequent point is automatically doubled.
NIGHTTIME SIGHTINGS
Chicken sightings between official sunset and sunrise times will be allocated double point values. The official arbiter of sunset and sunrise times shall be the Astronomical Applications Department of the U.S. Naval Observatory.
